First Steel Roof Frame Installed at Passenger Terminal Construction Site – The Heart of Long Thanh Airport Mega-Project

In late August, the construction site of the passenger terminal—deemed the "heart" of the Long Thanh Airport mega-project—was a hive of activity. Thousands of workers, engineers, and state-of-the-art machinery worked around the clock, installing the terminal's steel roof structure—a critical milestone for the project. This key phase marks a significant step toward the terminal’s final form as completion draws near.
The steel roof structure, valued at approximately 3,500 billion VND (around 32,000 tons of steel), accounts for roughly 10% of the contract value. Stringent quality control procedures are in place for all incoming steel, with testing conducted in accordance with the project's technical standards to ensure top-tier quality. On August 22, 2024, installation of the steel roof structure for the terminal’s wings commenced, with two steel frames already in place. Work on the main roof structure is set to begin in September and will continue over the following months. The construction of the roof is expected to be completed before December 2025, with the façade installation to follow by March 2026. Simultaneously, equipment installation and operational testing are scheduled to begin at the start of 2026.
Just one year after breaking ground, critical aspects of the terminal are already on schedule, with some even progressing 20 days ahead of plan. The first four levels of the terminal have largely completed their reinforced concrete beams and floors, while the steel roof structure is being installed progressively. Reflecting on the project’s journey, from an empty stretch of red earth to the emerging structure of a concrete terminal, the progress is both visible and tangible.
The remarkable progress can be attributed to the perseverance, unity, and unwavering commitment of every team involved in the project. From fabrication and production to equipment testing and precise planning, each phase has been handled with the highest level of focus and coordination among the teams. Every moment spent on the construction site brings the terminal closer to completion. At the current rate of progress, the first commercial flight is expected to take off from Long Thanh Airport on September 2, 2026.
CONINCO, the supervision consultant for the passenger terminal of the Long Thanh Airport mega-project, is proud to witness the daily progress. The company’s engineers, having contributed thousands of hours of work on-site, share a sense of achievement as the terminal begins to take shape. Their tireless dedication - working through sun and rain, day and night - fuels the drive to bring this monumental project to successful completion. Once completed, the passenger terminal - the "heart" of the mega-project - will stand as a symbol of national pride, representing the aviation sector’s growth and Vietnam’s aspirations on the global stage.
