Following the success of previous architectural design competitions, Consultant and Inspection Joint Stock Company of construction technology and equipment (CONINCO., Jsc), in collaboration with the National Institute of Architecture and Nihon Sekkei Inc (Japan), formed the VIAR – NS – CONINCO Joint Venture to participate in the “Long Thanh Airport City Master Plan Concept” competition organized by the Dong Nai Department of Construction. The Joint Venture’s “Twin City Model” was awarded the first prize in the competition.
The international competition sought master plan concepts for the Long Thanh Airport City and its surrounding area. The cadastral boundary (property boundary) for the study encompassed three districts: Long Thanh, Thong Nhat, and Cam My, totaling over 57,000 hectares. The Long Thanh Airport City master planning area includes the entire official administrative border of Long Thanh district, with 14 administrative units (13 communes and 1 town), covering over 43,000 hectares. The expanded surrounding area comprises more than 14,000 hectares, including the official administrative borders of Lo 25 commune in Thong Nhat district, and Xuan Que, Song Nhan, and Thua Duc communes in Cam My district.
The VIAR – NS – CONINCO Joint Venture’s planning scheme for a twin city model aims to enhance global competitiveness. Dr. Hoàng Hữu Phê, Architect and Project Manager, explained that the Aerotropolis model centers on the airport as the core of regional economic growth, expanding beyond typical airport city boundaries.
The twin city model is based on the principle of balanced growth. Where both cities capitalize on each other’s strengths in solving common challenges. Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh Airport collaborate effectively, leveraging their advantages to create a globally competitive and integrated region, with Long Thanh Airport acting as a gateway for future development.
Long Thanh Airport is integrated into a dynamic urban network, including: Bien Hoa to the Northwest as a residential community; Long Khanh to the Northeast with agriculture and eco-tourism; and Ba Ria and Nhon Trach in the South as industrial and logistics centers.
The high-tech corridor emerging in Thu Duc City connects Long Thanh with Ho Chi Minh City, the region's economic and cultural center, located only 30 km to the west.Within Long Thanh Airport City, the VIAR – NS – CONINCO Joint Venture has identified five key areas, emphasizing Long Thanh’s natural green spaces.
The waterfront CBD connects the waterfront landscape to the East Sea and the ecological environment of the Can Gio World Biosphere Reserve.
The cultural complex connects the CBD with a high-tech innovation and R&D hub.
The new administrative complex integrates with existing urban structures, where existing industrial parks will be gradually converted to create space for the administrative urban development of Long Thanh City. This area will connect to and expand Thu Duc City’s innovation hubs. This will be a key draw for investment in Long Thanh's economic development.
To the Northwest of Long Thanh Airport City will be the biomedical city, linked with the ecological space, natural environment, and hi-tech agriculture.
The lakeside resort is based on the natural beauty of Suoi Quyt Lake and Bau Can Lake, creating a premier destination for lakeside tourism, entertainment, and recreation, as well as a high-quality housing complex. Finally, there is a dedicated logistics development area.
The VIAR – NS – CONINCO Joint Venture’s twin city model master plan concept was awarded first prize by the Evaluation Council with an average score of 82.38 points.
This award further validates CONINCO's strong design and planning capabilities, enhancing its reputation and prestige in the consulting field. It also paves the way for numerous collaboration opportunities with partners both domestically and internationally in future projects. This award is both an honor and a source of pride, and it provides motivation for the CONINCO architect team to continue innovating and designing unique, modern, and high-quality projects that meet customer needs, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of the country.
