CONINCO - AZUSA Consortium: Main Consultant for Passenger Terminal T2 - Phu Bai International Airport

On December 29th, in Huong Thuy Town, Thua Thien Hue Province, Airports Corporation of Vietnam cooperated with the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province to hold a groundbreaking ceremony of building Passenger Terminal T2 - Phu Bai International Airport. This is an important project that opens up opportunities for developing tourism economy in the Central region in general and Thua Thien Hue province in particular. CONINCO-Azusa Consortium is the Main Consultant for this project.
Attending the ground-breaking ceremony, there were Mr. Truong Hoa Binh - Member of Politburo, Standing Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Nguyen Van The - Minister of Transport; Mr. Le Truong Luu - Secretary of Thua Thien Hue Provincial Party Committee together with leaders of central ministries and agencies and leaders of contractors participated in the project.
From CONINCO - AZUSA Consortium, there were Mr. Nguyen Van Cong - Chairman of CONINCO's BoM, Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang - CONINCO's Deputy General Director; Mr. Ari Kyo - Azusa's Executive Director, Mr. Pham Hai Ha - Azusa's Chief Manager of International Department and Design consultant team.
Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony, Politburo member and Standing Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh emphasized that in the current context, Vietnam's air transport infrastructure system has not followed the national and international growth and development. Many airports have become overloaded, including Phu Bai International Airport (already exceeding 30% of the designed capacity), so the implementation of the Passenger Terminal T2 project at Phu Bai international airport is very necessary. Therefore, in order to complete the project on schedule, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh requested the Ministry of Transport and the Commission for the Management of State Capital at Enterprises to create conditions on capital and mechanisms for developing and perfecting Phu Bai airport infrastructure, helping Thua Thien Hue "take off" and further promote the socio-economic development of the province and the region.
The construction project of Passenger Terminal T2 - Phu Bai International Airport has a total investment of around 2,250 billion VND, extracted from the Development Investment Fund of ACV. The project includes passenger terminal; system of elevated road; transport system; car parking and synchronous auxiliary items. Taking design ideas from Ngu mountain, the terminal has an unique architectural style - an impeccable fusion of traditional and modern beauty. What completely stuns tourists coming to Phu Bai International Airport is the prominent architecture style which is highly characteristic of Imperial Hue ceramic multi-tiered roofs with delicately upward curves reflecting a strong desire for growth and prosperity.
The terminal is designed with 3 floors including 1st floor, an entresol, and 2nd floor. The passenger terminal equips a system leading to aircrafts including four passenger boarding bridges (three of code C and a dual tunnel). The construction area and the total construction floor area are around 10,118m2 and 22,381m2, respectively with a capacity of 5 million passengers/year (including 4 million domestic passengers and 1 million international passengers), enable to serve 2,500 passengers in peak hour effectively, equipped modern equipment, advanced aviation technology, providing many high quality utilities to serve passengers.
The project is expected to be completed and put into operation in Quarter 4/2021. Phu Bai international airport plays an important role in the socio-economic development strategy of Thua Thien Hue province and the central region. The construction project of Passenger Terminal T2 - Phu Bai International Airport when complete and put into operation will contribute to strengthening the connection between Thua Thien Hue and provinces and cities throughout the country, countries in the region and in the world; exploit the potential of local strengths, especially tourism development; contributing to ensuring national defense and security, protecting the sacred sky and sea areas of the country.
