On the morning of June 17th, T2 Passenger Terminal - Phu Bai International Airport, one of the most architecturally unique and aesthetically pleasing civil aviation infrastructure projects in Vietnam, was officially inaugurated in Huong Thuy Town, Thua Thien Hue province. Consultant and Inspection Joint Stock Company of Construction Technology and Equipment – (CONINCO., JSC), takes pride in being the creative force behind the distinctive architecture, heavily influenced by the characteristic style of the Hue Imperial City. Additionally, CONINCO served as the construction supervision unit for this major project, ensuring timely completion, quality assurance, and safety throughout the project implementation.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Member of the Politburo and Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics; Mr. Tran Luu Quang, Deputy Prime Minister; Mr. Nguyen Van Thang, Minister of the Ministry of Transport; representatives of the Thua Thien Hue provincial leadership and various departments; representatives from the investor - Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV); as well as the leaders of the units involved in the project implementation.
Within CONINCO, there were Mr. Phan Ngoc Cuong - Member of the Board of Directors, General Director; Mr. Nguyen Dang Quang - Deputy General Director in charge of project design; Mr. Nguyen Minh Quan - Deputy General Director in charge of project consultancy and supervision; Mr. Pham Tien Thang - Director of Architecture Center 2; Ms. Luong Thi Ngoc Huyen - Head of Architecture; Mr. Nguyen Trung Thanh - Deputy Director of CONINCO's branch in Ho Chi Minh City and the chief of the project management board.
The project features a unique design inspired by the architecture of the Hue Imperial City.
The design of Passenger Terminal T2, created by the consortium of CONINCO - AZUSA SEKKEI (Japan), draws inspiration from the local geographical and cultural context, including the majestic ensemble of Ngự Mountain and the surrounding mountain ranges, the grandeur of the Huong River's natural landscape, and the complex architectural heritage of the historic capital city of Hue, representing the symbolic motifs of Hue's cultural heritage. These motifs are developed within various landscapes of the terminal, serving as a theme to enhance the value of the project. The exterior architecture of the terminal takes inspiration from the Hue Palace architecture, characterized by overlapping and extending layers of roofs, symbolizing the city's aspiration for progress and innovation while retaining its ancient charm.
The T2 Passenger Terminal is designed with functional spaces featuring two passenger circulation levels. The domestic and international arrival areas are located on the first floor, while the departure area is situated on the second floor. The terminal is organized into separate zones for processing procedures and waiting areas, enhancing the operational efficiency and capacity of the terminal. This design ensures a streamlined and efficient flow of traffic from the processing halls to the boarding areas and vice versa, as well as from the aircraft to the baggage claim area. In addition to efficiency requirements, this design also prioritizes visual clarity, user-friendly layouts, comfort, and convenience for passengers.
T2 Passenger Terminal is connected to aircraft parking positions through 04 passenger boarding bridges, including 3 Code C passenger boarding bridges and one dual passenger boarding bridge capable of accommodating either one Code E aircraft or two Code C aircraft simultaneously.
T2 Passenger Terminal features: 44 check-in counters; 4 online check-in kiosks; 8 boarding gates; 4 baggage claim carousels (3 for domestic flights, 1 for international flights); 4 passenger boarding bridges (1 dual bridge, 3 single bridges); 10 security screening machines (6 for domestic flights, 4 for international flights); 10 immigration counters (6 for arrivals, 4 for departures)
The passenger circulation level is elevated at a height of +8.80 meters above ground level, allowing smooth traffic flow underneath and providing an open view. Passengers access the terminal from the viaduct to enter the check-in hall and subsequently proceed through the security screening area.
Next, passengers will have a spacious area with amenities and services at the waiting level. The second floor provides a particularly impressive experience with a 54-meter-long roof structure featuring a large skylight positioned centrally along the passenger's movement path. This design not only allows for ample natural light but also serves as a guiding element, making it easy for passengers to orient themselves. From any position in the departure hall, passengers can clearly identify the pathway leading inside. At the exterior arrival hall on the first floor, there is a wide 12-meter-high veranda along the elevated road level, inspired by the landscapes of the banks of the Huong River, welcoming guests to Hue.
Functional areas such as car parking, taxi stands, bus stops, and group tour vehicle areas are arranged in front of the terminal, designed to accommodate the current capacity and anticipated future development. The traffic flow into the parking areas is planned to ensure minimal interference with the traffic flow in front of the terminal. The motorcycle parking area for passengers is separated from other traffic lanes to avoid congestion with motorized vehicles. Additional supporting facilities, including wastewater treatment stations, power stations, toll booths, security checkpoints, and appropriate fencing, are strategically positioned throughout the site.
The design of the T2 Passenger Terminal at Phu Bai International Airport is highly regarded for its combination of the distinctive cultural value of Hue and the talent of the designers.
Successfully completed on schedule
The construction project of the T2 Passenger Terminal at Phu Bai International Airport, with a capacity of 5 million passengers per year (1 million international passengers and 4 million domestic passengers), commenced on December 29, 2019. With a total investment of nearly 2,300 billion VND, the project officially began operations at the end of April 2023 after over 3 years of effort and dedication from the leadership at all levels, the provincial authorities of Thua Thien Hue, the investor Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), the design consulting firms, construction contractors, and the supervision consultants.
In this project, CONINCO was responsible for design consultancy and supervision. Despite various factors such as domestic and global economic and political situations, the COVID-19 pandemic, and complex weather conditions affecting the project's progress, under the determined guidance of the Investor, CONINCO's architects, and engineers, with their experience, professionalism, and dedication, worked closely with other participating units to closely monitor the construction, devise timely solutions to overcome setbacks, allocate all available resources, and maximize favorable weather conditions for catch-up construction to compensate for delays caused by external factors. Advanced construction technologies and methods were applied, and modern machinery and equipment were mobilized to meet the requirements of round-the-clock construction shifts, working tirelessly on-site even during the Lunar New Year holidays. All these efforts contributed to the successful completion of the T2 Passenger Terminal project at Phu Bai International Airport, meeting the scheduled timeline and ensuring construction quality, technical specifications, aesthetic requirements, and absolute labor safety.
The first passenger terminal of ACV (Airports Corporation of Vietnam) applies digital transformation.
According to ACV's leadership, the T2 Passenger Terminal - Phu Bai International Airport is the first terminal of ACV to apply the digital transformation, upgrading its digital infrastructure and platform to standardize business processes such as self-service check-in for passengers, self-service baggage check-in, AI-powered automated broadcasting system, and implementation of chip-embedded citizen identification card system. By adopting modern technology, the services at the terminal will provide convenience and comfort for passengers. These factors contribute to making the T2 Phu Bai Passenger Terminal the most beautiful, modern, and intelligent airport terminal in Vietnam today.
The project marks CONINCO's brand in the aviation industry.
Over the past 45 years of formation and development, CONINCO has provided various services (consultancy, construction supervision, testing, quality inspection, evaluation, design, etc.) for almost all major and small-scale aviation projects throughout Vietnam, including Long Thanh, Noi Bai, Cat Bi, Can Tho, Phu Quoc, Cam Ranh, Da Nang, Tan Son Nhat, Pleiku, Phu Bai, Vinh, Con Son, and Lien Khuong airports.
