On the morning of 15 September 2026, the science and technology seminar themed “Vietnam’s Bridge Construction Technology: A Journey of Mastery and Development” was solemnly held at the headquarters of the Consultant and Inspection Joint Stock Company of Construction Technology and Equipment (CONINCO., JSC). To spread knowledge and enable experts across the country to participate, the program was organized in a flexible format: in person at the Hanoi main venue, combined with online connections to the provinces. This is a prestigious professional forum jointly organized by the Vietnam Federation of Civil Engineering Associations, the Vietnam Bridge and Road Association and the Vietnam Association of Building Science and Technology.
Attending from the Ministry of Construction were Dr. Hoang Hai – Director of the State Authority for Construction Quality Inspection; Prof. Dr. Sc. Nguyen Van Lien – Former Deputy Minister of Construction and Honorary Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Building Science and Technology; Mr. Tong Van Nga – Former Deputy Minister of Construction, Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Building Materials, and Vice President of the Vietnam Federation of Civil Engineering Associations; Dr. Nguyen Hong Hai – Director of the Vietnam Institute for Building Science and Technology; and Mr. Nguyen Trung Them (M.Sc.) – Deputy Director of the Institute of Transport Science and Technology.
From the professional associations were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh – Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations; Dr. Tran Ba Viet – Vice President of the Vietnam Concrete Association; and Dr. Hoang Ung Tuyen – Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Engineering Consultant Association (VECAS), among others.
From the organizers were Dr. Dang Viet Dung – President of the Vietnam Vietnam Federation of Civil Engineering Associations; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Hoa – President of the Vietnam Association of Building Science and Technology; Dr. Ha Minh – Vice President and Secretary General of the Vietnam Association of Building Science and Technology and Chairman of the Board of Directors of CONINCO, the host of the Seminar; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Chung – Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Building Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Tran Ngoc Long – Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Building Science and Technology; Mr. Tran Tan Phuc – Vice President of the Vietnam Association of Building Science and Technology of the Association and Chairman of Portcoast Consultant Corporation and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Ha – Vice President of the Vietnam Bridge and Road Association. The Seminar was also attended by many experts, scientists, and representatives of state management agencies, universities, research institutes, and leading enterprises in the field of bridge structures and construction technology.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Dang Viet Dung stressed the special importance of bridges within the transport infrastructure network. Summarizing several decades of development of Vietnam’s bridge and road sector, he noted that the sector has risen from a starting point of dependence on foreign technology to the present, when domestic engineers are fully self-reliant on complex construction works. The consistent message emphasized by the organizers goes beyond pride in regional-scale bridges: it is also about innovation, applying smart materials, and digital transformation to achieve breakthrough development in the new era. He affirmed that every bridge built does more than connect two banks across a geographical gap; it also opens new economic corridors, profoundly reshapes urban structures, and creates strong growth momentum for an entire region.
In his welcome speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Ngoc Linh highly appreciated the initiative of the professional associations. He affirmed that this is a practical forum for pooling intellect, summarizing practical experience, and setting strategic directions for the development of transport infrastructure technology in the coming period.
Moving into the scientific program, delegates listened to a series of nine highly practical thematic reports, offering a comprehensive view of the technical progress of the bridge and road sector. Specifically:
• History of the development of bridge construction technology in Vietnam (Presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tong Tran Tung).
• Applying BIM in bridge design at TEDI: From 3D modeling to parametric design, automation, and data integration (Presented by the Transport Engineering Design Incorporated - TEDI).
• Construction technology for large-diameter bored piles – The journey of mastering construction technology (Presented by Bac Trung Nam Infrastructure Construction Joint Stock Company).
• Mastering technology for structural–geometric analysis and control in the design and construction of steel network tied-arch bridges (Presented by Khang Nguyen Infrastructure Construction Investment Joint Stock Company).
• Construction technology for hybrid-girder cable-stayed bridges (Presented by Trung Chinh Trading and Construction Co., Ltd.).
• Stay cable installation and maintenance (Presented by VSL Vietnam).
• Applying structural health monitoring (SHM) systems across the entire life cycle of long-span cable-stayed bridges: From risk control during construction to structural health assessment during operation (Presented by Viphap Co., Ltd.).
• Ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) in Vietnam’s bridge construction: Research, technology mastery, and development directions (Presented by Mr. Le Anh Duc, M.Sc.).
• Digital transformation in bridge construction: From digital as-built surveys using UAV and 3D laser scanning to building information models, digital twins, and AI agents (Presented by the Port and Marine Engineering Design Consultancy Joint Stock Company - Portcoast).
In addition to the nine Academic papers presented in person, the Seminar proceedings also compile 31 articles on topics including sea-crossing bridge design, high-speed railway bridges, application of new materials, and structural health monitoring.
To close the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Duy Hoa delivered the closing remarks on behalf of the Organizing Committee, acknowledging the great intellectual value the Seminar delivered. Together with Dr. Dang Viet Dung and Dr. Ha Minh, he presented certificates of recognition to the authors and organizations whose Academic papers were presented at the Seminar.
