Official Opening the Samsung largest Southeast Asia research development center in Hanoi

On the morning of December 23, 2022, Samsung Vietnam officially opened and put into operation the Research and Development Center (R&D) in Tay Ho Tay Urban Area, Hanoi. This is the group's largest center in Southeast Asia. The opening ceremony was honored with the participation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Mr. Lee Jae Yong - Chairman of Samsung Group. Consultant and Inspection Joint Stock Company of Construction Technology and Equipment (CONNCO., JSC) is proud to be a local consultant cooperating with foreign consultants Heerim Architects & Planner Co., Ltd to well performed the construction supervision consultancy services for the project.

Samsung Vietnam's new R&D center has an investment capital of US$ 220 million, designed with 16 floors and 3 basements with a total construction area of 11,603 m2 and a floor area of 79,511 m2; is the first large-scale high-rise building specializing in technology development in Vietnam established by an FDI enterprise. Samsung plans to develop its R&D Center in Vietnam into the number one R&D center globally by strengthening partnerships with universities in key technology areas of the future such as: improving expertise in core technology research of mobile devices (multimedia, security); improving research and development capacity to achieve autonomy in technology products of artificial intelligence (AI)/big data (BigData)/Internet of things (IoT)… in addition to increasing support fostering Vietnam's information technology (IT) human resources.

In addition, through the Research and Development Center, Samsung hopes to actively contribute to the development of hardware (H/W), software (S/W) suitable for the advanced information technology and the fourth industrial revolution. Mr. Roh Tae Moon - CEO of Samsung Electronics hopes that the Samsung Research and Development Center will become the cradle to nurture the most elite IT talents in Vietnam and the birthplace of the world's leading technologies. It is hoped that the technological talents fostered and developed here will be a source of positive contributions to improving Vietnam's industrial competitiveness. In the coming time, Samsung plans to elevate Vietnam's position beyond its role as a global production base to become Samsung's strategic research and development base globally.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the contributions of Samsung Group as well as its member companies doing business in Vietnam during the past time. The Prime Minister emphasized that after 30 years of establishment, the relationship between Vietnam and Korea has been continuously consolidated and developed in many fields. Up to now, Samsung has been the biggest Korean investor in Vietnam. The launch of the R&D Centre in Hanoi is evidence of Samsung’s orientations and commitments to long-term operations in Vietnam, as well as its policy to call for and attract investment in technology and innovation.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Samsung Group to continue to expand investment and business activities, considering Vietnam as its important and global strategic base in terms of production, research and development of key products to the international market. He suggested Samsung step up specific cooperation activities in researching and linking with the network of Vietnamese experts and intellectuals so as to push ahead with appropriate   technology projects. The inaugural R&D center in Vietnam will be a fire of inspiration for innovation, leading the technologies of the future, creating new value through knowledge and constant innovation.
